Acclimation

Your child will need a little time to become comfortable with the playgroup. We want his/her experience to be a positive one from the beginning, so we ask that you plan on being present for the entire first session, but just in the background. The next session you can leave the playgroup for one hour, but need to be reachable. To ensure that your child will not be afraid to stay without you, it is important for you to say goodbye to him/her when you leave, and to tell him/her that you will be back to pick him/her up later on.

Occasionally children cry when you say goodbye to them. This is normal and usually lasts only a short time, then the child returns to playing. Each day you can increase your time away until your child is comfortable playing for the entire three hours without you there. Some children adjust quickly; others take a little longer.

Snacks

In order for your child to "recharge his/her batteries" we have snack time. We recommend that you send a healthy snack with your child each session. For example, fruits, vegetables, cheese, yogurt or wholemeal crackers (please, no sweets or overly salty snacks). Of course we also celebrate birthdays in the playgroup, so you can bring a cake or something sweet on that day if you like.
